Eligibility Points of Emphasis

Eligibility Points of Emphasis

Fall Sports:
·         Student must have passed five (5) subjects in the previous school year. This includes summer school credits.
·         Student must be currently taking at least five (5) credited subjects in the fall semester.
·         Student must be enrolled by the 15th day of the first semester.
·         Once a student is termed academically eligible for the fall season, he/she remains so for the duration of the season. However, each coach reserves the right to have a more rigorous academic policy than the VHSL requires.

Winter Sports:
·         Student eligibility is determined two (2) times during the winter sports season. Their initial eligibility is based upon grades obtained from the previous school year. See first bullet above for clarification. The second eligibility occurs at the semester break. At this time, students must have passed five (5) subjects for the first semester in order to maintain their eligibility. Also at this time, a student termed ineligible at the start of the season, could become eligible after the semester break. On the other hand, a student that was termed eligible at the start of the season could lose their eligibility if they fail to pass five (5) first semester courses.
·         Student must be currently taking five (5) credited subjects.
Spring Sports:
·         Student must have passed five (5) classes in the first semester of the current school year.
·         Student must be currently taking five (5) credited subjects.
·         Once a student is termed academically eligible for the spring season, they will remain so for the duration of the school year. However, each coach reserves the right to have more rigorous academic standards than the VHSL requires.
·         Once a student is termed academically ineligible for the spring season, they will remain so until the end of the school year. Students that are academically ineligible are not allowed to practice or participate in any capacity.
Whole year points:
·         In order for a student to practice/play, they must have a VHSL physical on file in the Athletic Office. Do not allow a student to practice/play in any capacity that does not have this form on file.
·         Eligibility requirements will also apply to those students who are intending to manage and/or train. Those names need to be submitted as well. Ineligible students are not allowed to manage/train.
·         If you have a student that may be in question, get to us and we will find out (Student Activities). This will prevent keeping an ineligible student over an eligible student.
·         Check the VHSL physical form for all appropriate signatures before allowing a student to participate.
