Coach Chris Spera has been with the Hawks’ staff for six seasons – prior to joining the staff, he was involved in running and coaching the Hawks’ off-season program/team.  He has a great deal of experience coaching and instructing high school athletes and a demonstrated commitment to youth, scholastic and collegiate athletics.  Besides baseball, Coach Spera was a member of the varsity basketball staff at Hayfield for six seasons, including 2009-10’s undefeated squad.  He also serves as the president of the Board of Directors for the Springfield/South County Youth Club and serves as Vice President for Operations on the Board of Directors of the DC Grays, a team in the Cal Ripken Summer Collegiate Baseball League. He is a 1984 graduate of the University of Virginia, where he played basketball as a non-scholarship player for Coach Terry Holland.  He remained at UVa to attend law school, graduating from the University’s School of Law in 1987.  Both his son Cory (2011) and his daughter Cameron (2013) are proud graduates of and were varsity athletes at Hayfield Secondary.  Cameron, who assisted the Hayfield baseball program as photographer and PA announcer, is currently at the prestigious S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and is a member of the dance team at Syracuse University. Cory was a 4-year member of the Hawks Varsity baseball team, team captain and National District “pitcher of the year” in 2011, and went on to play Division I baseball at Lafayette College, where he was First team All-Patriot League and Patriot League Baseball Scholar Athlete in 2014.
