The Hawks began their 2012-2013 campaign, falling to the Stallions of South County HS, 52-48. Hayfield led for most of the game, but were bedeviled by a poor shooting night, which saw them hit only 4 of 24 three pointers. Overall, the Hawks could only manage 13 field goals. The Hawks almost came back though, with senior Quentin Hutchinson (4 pts, 4 rebs) burying a 3 pointer with a little over a minute remaining, to trim the deficit to 4 points. Unfortunately, the Hawks could never cut into that lead again.
The Hawks were led by junior forward Amir Atkins (14 pts, 6 rebs, 4 stls), and senior forward Chris Johnson (10pts, 6 rebs, 3 stls).
