Hayfield’s second annual Tip-Off classic, sponsored by Yellow Cab, began this afternoon, with National Christian HS opposing Princeton Day. Following that contest, the Hawks held their first home game of the season, trying to knock off #13 (nationally ranked) Montrose Christian. The Hawks, giving up as many as 9 inches to some of the Mustang big men, held Montrose to 28 first half points. Unfortunately, the heavy toll of defending against the Mustangs, led the Hawks to another off night from the field. The misses continued to mount in the 3rd quarter, where the Mustangs pulled away from Hayfield. The Hawks rebounded with 19 4th quarter points, but the challenge was too great by that time.

The Hawks were paced by juniors Phil Guydon (8 pts, 2 rebs), and Amir Atkins

(8 pts, 3 rebs), as well as sophomore Daquan Poindexter (7 pts, 5-6 FT), making his varsity regular season debut, who sank an up & under lay-up as the buzzer sounded, wowing the crowd.

The Hawks return tomorrow (Saturday, 12/1/12), to cap off the tourney, facing off against National Christian. Game time 2:00pm.
