The Hawks recorded their first win of the season last night, defeating West Springfield HS 70-53. On offense, the Hawks went up-tempo, pushing the ball up the court, resulting in many open looks, and several quick baskets.
The Hawks were paced by junior forward Amir Atkins (27 pts, 5 assts, 2stls), who has recorded back to back games over 25 points, junior point guard Tyler Thornton (10 pts, 6 assts, 5 stls), who played most of the game, as senior guard Brandon Lawson is recovering from a knee injury. Tyler was key in the quick tempo attack, often drawing the defense, and then finding an open teammates for a easy buckets. Senior guard Tyler Seelman led the team in rebounding, with 8 boards, along with 8pts, including 2 from long range, while sophomore Daquan Poindexter (8pts, 1 asst) chipped in with 2 from downtown as well.
