HAWKS CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS WITH 6TH STRAIGHT WIN

The Varsity boys from Hayfield Secondary, kicked off their holiday break, winning the first game of their 3 day tourney, being held at Lake Braddock Secondary. The Hawks victory leads to a possible semi-final match up with the Bruins of Lake Braddock, who are playing currently vs. Osbourne HS.

The Hawks executed their game plan for much of the first three quarters, limiting Hylton HS to a total of 32 points, while exploiting their opponents defensive lapses, going up by more 20 points often through out the pivotal third quarter. The Hawks came cruising back to earth a bit in the fourth, as Hylton mounted a furious comeback, but the deficit was too great, with the Hawks margin finishing at 13 points.

The Hawks had a balanced attack tonight, as everyone participated in the convincing defeat of Hylton HS. The Hawks were paced by reserve G/F Faris Gebril (13pts, 1blk), whose stats included 6-6 from the free throw line. He was equaled by starting SG Tyler Seelman (13pts, 3rebs, 1stl, 1blk) who continued his hot hand from downtown, hitting 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Other contributors included: F Chris Johnson (6pts, 7rebs, 2 drawn charges) led the early going with great trap defense, PG Tyler Thornton (2pts, 8assts, 3 stls) seemed every where on the press, often covering much of the court to snare the ball away from his opponent. SF Amir Atkins (11pts, 6rebs, 4stls) again played a solid game, helping the Hawks out to their insurmountable lead, and then getting needed rest, in anticipation for tomorrows opponent. C Richmond Williams (8pts, 3rebs, 3assts) continued to get in his groove, finishing several fast breaks. Reserve combo guard, Phil Guydon (8pts, 4rebs, 2assts) continued his opportunistic play, grabbing 2 key offensive boards, and finishing around the basket, as he buried all four attempts. JV call up; Tyler Hodge came up for the tourney, and saw some action as well.

The Hawks return to Lake Braddock tomorrow (12/27/12) for their next test, either against the Bruins of Lake Braddock or the Eagles of Osbourne HS, game time 7:30pm.
