STREAK ENDS AS PATRIOTS THUMP HAWKS
The Hayfield Hawks saw their winning streak come to an end (at 11 wins), as their National District rivals, the Yorktown Patriots came into the Hawks Nest, and shot the lights out. The Patriots seemed not to miss, connecting on 7 of 10 from beyond the arc, missing only 2 free throws on the night, and shooting 53% overall from the field. All of this, on a night where the Hawks couldn’t find the basket, scoring just 7 points in the first half (2-25 from the field).
The were few brights spots tonight, although finally, the Hawks began to find their range. Reserve PG Brandon Lawson (13pts, 2-3 from downtown), was the only Hawk to break into double digits. In the second half Hayfield outscored Yorktown 35-34, playing them straight up. This was supposed to have been a marquee match up between two of the better squads in the district, but it was not to be for the Hawks, who struggled from the outset, going down by double digits just 3 minutes into the game, before scoring their first basket.
Other notable contributions: C Richmond Williams is still perfect on the season from the FT line (11-11), after going 2-2 tonight. The Hawks only committed 11 turnovers in the game. F Chris Johnson (6pts, 7rebs, 2asts) drew two charges in the game, and grabbed 5 offensive rebounds.
