Hawks Run Stallions off the Court

The Boys Varsity began their 2013-2014 campaign with a convincing victory over their arch rival, the Stallions of South County. The Hawks used a dominant second quarter (doubling up the Stallions 18-9), to open up a double digit lead at the half. Although the Hawks played a rather sloppy second half, they were still more than enough for the Stallions to handle, who never came closer than 6 points over the last 16 minutes. 
Hayfield used superior interior defense to spark their victory, accumulating 9 blocked shots, led by Eliet Donley (9 pts, 11 rebs, 7 blks), making his Hawks regular season debut. They also added 11 steals, 18 deflections, and 31 defensive rebounds, to round out their stellar defensive night.

The Hawks were paced by junior PF Dalon Thomas (15pts), and senior SF Amir Atkins (13pts, 9rebs, 1 stl). Also breaking into double figures, senior PG Tyler Thornton (10pts, 5 rebs, 3asts, 3stls), who along with Donley and PF Montez Wilson (10pts, 11rebs, 2blks, 2stls), helped the Hawks dominate in the Hawks Nest. Next up is the Hayfield Tip-off classic on Friday evening vs. perennial power house Montrose Christian.
