Hawks Swarm Hornets, Soar to 2 – 1

        The Boys Varsity earned a split in their 3^rd annual Hayfield Tip-off Classic, defeating the Hornets of Surrattesville HS on Saturday, 71-47. The Hawks used another huge 3^rd quarter, outscoring the Hornets by 14 points (26-12). For the second game in a row, the Hawks emerged from their half time locker room pumped up, and took control of the game. This time, the Hawks didn’t let up in the 4^th quarter however, pouring in an additional 17 points, to push their season record back above .500.

        Senior SG Amir Atkins (13pts, 7rebs, 2stls) continues to sizzle from the free throw line. He is now 16-16 on the season (9-9 on Saturday afternoon). The Hawks as a group missed only 5 free throws (24-29, 83%) all day. For the second time in 3 games, the Boys Varsity limited their opponents to fewer than 50 points. The Hawks amassed 19 steals, 4 blocks, 16 deflections, along with drawing 3 charges, to lead to the 24 point victory.

       The Hawks equaled their high shooting from beyond the arc (converting 5 three pointers). They were led by Senior SG Faris Gebril (9pts, 2asts, 2stls) who hit all three of his attempts. Junior PF Eliet Donley (10pts, 4rebs, 3blks)bounced back with a solid game, while Juniors Muharrim Haque (2pts, 3rebs, 1stl), Kyle Phox (6pts, 2rebs, 3stls), and Eddy Biniam (3pts, 1ast, 1stl) scored their first points at the varsity level. Other contributors included: Tyler Hodge (6pts, 2rebs, 2asts, 2stls), Phil Guydon (8pts, 1ast, 1stl), and Tyler Thornton (4pts, 3asts, 3 stls), who is also perfect from the charity stripe; 10 -10 this season.
