Spartans Keep Hawks Winless

     The Hayfield Boys Varsity Basketball team stumbled again on Saturday, losing (58-47) to nearby West Springfield HS. The Spartans dominated the backboards at both ends of the floor, to set up their 11 point victory over the winless Hawks (0-3). Hayfield’s woes were accentuated by the Spartans, who snagged 20 offensive rebounds, often at pivotal times of the game. The Varsity boys were unable to find their range again from downtown, pushing their season average to below 15% from outside the arc. This specific struggle, coupled the inability to keep the Spartans at bay on the boards, helped lead to the Hawks suffering their third loss in a row.

     Hayfield was paced again by SF Kelsey McCrimmon (14pts, 6rebs, 2stls), who scraped together a double digit game for the first time this season. With his outside shot off, Kelsey looked for ways to score in the key. He was joined in double figures by SF Tyler Hodge (12pts, 3rebs, 4stls), who also eclipsed double figures for the 1^st time this season. PG Daquan Poindexter (8pts, 3asts, 3stls) started to assert himself in the 4^th quarter, driving into the teeth of the Spartan defense. He reached the line 8 times during the game, converting 5. Overall, the Hawks shot a season high from the charity stripe (12-17, 71%).

    The Hawks look to right the ship on Tuesday, when they venture to Jaguar country, tipping off with Falls Church HS. Hayfield looks to defeat the Jaguars on their home court, as well as starting their own win streak. Game time 7:30pm.
