Chargers Deflate Hawks 57-52

    The Boys Varsity Basketball team is on some rough court right now. On Tuesday night, the Hawks fell to Chantilly by 5, pushing their loss total to the same. Last year the Hawks had not lost their 5th game until their shootout with Wakefield HS in the 12^th game of the season. This season has not been one for the books yet, but there is much basketball to be played. Hayfield was unable to defend the 3 point line on Tuesday night, as the Chargers connected 8 times from beyond the arc, including 4 daggers in the 3^rd quarter alone. Those triples, coupled with 2 more in the 4^th quarter, and some untimely errors by the Hawks led to the 5 point defeat.

   The Boys Varsity were led by their senior SF Muharrim Haque (14pts, 3rebs, 1ast), who did much of his damage from the charity stripe, connecting one 7 of 8. Haque also hit one of the Hawks three triples. He was joined in double figures by SF Kelsey McCrimmon (13pts, 10rebs, 1stl), who had his first double double of the season, and SG/SF Tyler Hodge (12pts, 5rebs) who was able to routinely penetrate the Chargers interior defense.

   Other contributors included PF Dalon Thomas (3pts, 6rebs, 3asts, 1chrg), who drew his 8^th charge of the season, leading the team. SG Aaron Jeter (3pts, 2stls) buried a wing three with time running down in the 1^st quarter, giving the Hawks a one point lead after one. Freshman SG Brian Cobbs (2pts, 1reb) had a key offensive rebound and put back in the first half.
