JV Hawks Fall Back to Earth, edge JV Generals by One.

The JV boys of Hayfield seemed to be on their way to another comfortable win over a Liberty league opponent on Wednesday night, during the first half of their make up game with the Generals of W&L. The Generals had other plans, coming out after halftime determined to take the win back to their home. They scored the first 16 points of the second half, to erase a 10 point deficit, and to go up by 6 points. The lead grew to as much as 8 during the 3rd quarter. However, in the fourth quarter, the Hawks finally started playing ball again, and asserted their defensive will onto the Generals. As the press began to find holes in the Generals offense, the Hawks gained many easy baskets. Reserve players, Nana Owusu (5 pts) and Kelechi Adoma (6 pts, 3 rebs, 3 steals) made clutch baskets down the stretch, and Freshman center Garrick Short (10 pts, 7 rebs, 2 assts) broke out with his first double digit scoring game of his Hayfield career, many of them in the key fourth quarter comeback. Finally, with under one minute to play, the Hawks regained the lead. Then they forced the Generals to turn the ball over, sealing the comeback win.

Other notable efforts included: Sam Angeli who started his first game of the season and scored 13 points (including 3 - 6 from 3pt range). Ben Kim had a solid game passing the ball, tallying 5 assists. Nate McShay had a tough game shooting, but hit two pivotal free throws down the stretch, to help seal the win.

The Hawks will next travel to Wakefield HS, on Friday January 8, 2010. Please travel to Squawk for your Hawks!!
