JV Hawks Sweep Falls Church HS

Hayfield's boys JV basketball team continued their unbeaten streak, with a shaky 14 point win over the Jaguars of Falls Church HS. After soundly beating the Jaguars by 64 points earlier in the season, the JV Hawks encountered a much improved team, with lots of pride. The Hawks won the game, but were not able to shut the door on Falls Church, as the Jaguars slowly chipped away at Hayfield's lead, and their will to win. In the end however, the large 3rd quarter lead was too much to overcome.

The Hawks were led by sophomore guard Ben KIm, who had a career day. He hit 10-16 from the field, including 2 threes, and 3 free throws to score 25 points. He added 5 rebounds and 6 steals. Only one other Hawk scored more than 5 points; Nate McShay (9 pts, 10 rebounds, 2 stls, 3 assts). Ben accouinted for almost 50% of the Hawks final score; 56-42.

Other notable efforts: Brandyn Marshall was clutch down the stretch, with 4 free throws, as was Steve Lynch, with 5 points, along with 2 assists and 2 steals. Desston Haskins broke out of his shooting funk, hitting 2-5 from the floor; 4 points, 4 rebs, and 2 steals in his first start. Anthony Wilson was the defensive stopper, tallying 6 steals and 7 rebounds. Nana Owusu added 2 points and 3 rebs. Sam Angeli continued his hot shooting from beyond the arc, shooting 1-1 in limited action, which raised his team high 3 pt shooting percentage to nearly 50%. Isaiah Glasby saw significant minutes with Garrick Short out, scoring 2 points, and grabbing 7 rebounds.
