JV HAWKS REMAIN UNDEFEATED, STIFLE RAIDERS BY 16
The Hawk squad one step below varsity continued on its yellow brick road yesterday, using a late run to put away their National District foes, the Raiders of Stuart HS. So far this season, it hasn’t mattered what any opponent has thrown at the JV Hawks, for they have passed each test triumphantly. That is not to say there is not much work to do, for each of the JV Hawks players have a goal in mind; to make it up to the varsity squad one day.
The JV Hawks did not make it easy on themselves, squandering many chances yesterday. By the start of the 4th quarter, Hayfield only held a 3 point edge. Finally in the fourth, the Hawks hit their stride, tallying over 33% of their total points in the final quarter. PG Ralf Bansil (12pts, 4asts, 5stls) led the way in the final frame, dropping in 7 of his team high 12 points. PF Mike Cobbs (12pts, 3rebs) shared the team high in scoring and added 2 key buckets of his own during the 23-10 run to close the contest. SG Corey Hernandez (11pts, 2asts) was perfect from the floor, scoring in double digits for the 2nd time in 3 games. SF Tyler Hodge (10pts, 5rebs, 3asts, 2stls), one of 4 Hawks in double figures, led the team in rebounding.
