The JV Hawks and JV Eagles of Edison, played another game that went down to the wire. The Eagles came out hot, trying to avenge an early season loss to the Hawks. After the first quarter, it was 19 – 19. The game seemed destined for a high score and perhaps overtime. The Hawks then employed their stifling press, which limited the Eagles to 14 points over the next 16 minutes. Unfortunately the Hawks, who went to the charity stripe often, were not able to convert, missing 13 free throws over the course of the game (28 – 41). In the fourth quarter, the Hawks built an 11 pt. lead, only to see the Eagles cut it to a one possession game, with less than two minutes. Then the Hawks finally found their range at the line, winning ugly, by 4.
The Hawks were led by freshman reserve pt. guard Tyler Thornton, who scored a team/season high of 18 pts (9-9 from the line). He added 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Joining him in double digits was Kendrick Mack, who came off the bench to score 10 (7-9 from the line) and added 2 key late 4th quarter rebounds.
