Last Second Heroics lead Hawks past Patriots!
The JV Hawks improved to 11-4 this season with a walk-off win vs. the JV Patriots of Yorktown HS. The Patriots are one of the National district top teams, and yet have not been able to solve the Hawks, losing twice this season to Hayfield, by a total of 3 points. This game was not settled until the last split second, when freshman captain Dalon Thomas laid the ball off the glass as the buzzer sounded, completing the comeback.
The JV Hawks employed a staunch 2-3 zone for the entire second half, frustrating the Patriots, and holding them to 14 second half points. During the 1st half, recently promoted (to Varsity) sophomore guard Phil Guydon recognized a tendency that Yorktown was utilizing to break down our man to man defense. Based upon his observation, along with spirited defense, the JV Hawks slowly clawed back into the game. Timely 3 pointers, and the re-emergence of Kharon Brewer, helped the JV Hawks to improve to 9-4 in the district.
The JV Hawks complete their season tomorrow vs. Falls Church. The JV Hawks look to claim their 10th win in the district, and to avenge an earlier loss to the Jaguars.
The Hawks are celebrating their juniors tomorrow, as all 5 will start the game.
