Game Date

Score
HAWKS: 70
FALLS CHURCH HS: 46

JV Hawks Soar in Home Opener, Smother Jags by 24

The Boys JV squad began their National District campaign with high intensity defense, which for 3 quarters totally stymied the JV Jaguars of Falls Church HS. At the end of 24 minutes, the Hawks had only allowed 25 points to their opponents. Defense set the tone early, as the JV Hawks amassed 21 deflections, 25 steals, and 3 blocks throughout the contest. Only a sloppy 4th quarter, when the game was not in doubt, allowed the Jags to close to 24 by game’s end.

The JV Hawks were led both on offense and defense, by PG Xavier Gingras (15pts, 8stls, 3asts)  who in his first JV game swiped ¼ of his teams steals. SF Romaine Oakley (10pts, 3rebs, 3stls) set the offensive tone early, drilling 2 threes, as the JV Hawks ran out to an early 20-5 1st quarter lead. PF Jeremy Jones (10pts, 4rebs, 1chrg) and SF Aaron Jeter (10pts, 6rebs) joined the double digit quartet, as both players were decisive on the offensive boards. PF’s Mohamed Mahmoud (8pts, 6rebs, 1ast) and Zach Wenger (8pts, 3rebs, 1ast) came close to giving the Hawks 6 players in double figures. Defensively, C Aziz Amino came in to give some quality minutes, blocking 2 shots, and grabbing 5 rebounds.

The JV Hawks are back at it again tomorrow, when they travel across Kingstown to join in the Battle of the Birds vs. their arch-nemesis, the JV Eagles of Edison HS
