JV Hawks “A Work in Progress”, Fall to JV Chargers

The JV Boys of Hayfield Secondary are still trying to find their wings, in the early part of their 2013-2014 basketball season. While there are glimpses and flashes of what may come, the JV Hawks have not hit their stride yet. After a great first game, where the JV Hawks athleticism covered up many of their concerns, the last two games have been frustrating, for the JV Boys are often seemingly playing basketball without focus or commitment.

In the game on Tuesday night at Chantilly, there were some great individual efforts, although the sum of the whole did not add up. The best effort was put forth by the JV Hawks defensive specialist, SG Terrell Wheeler (2pts, 3stls, 1blk). Terrell played smothering man to man defense, which at times almost willed the rest of his squad to play at his level. Unfortunately, the hole dug in the first half was too large to overcome. PF Jeremy Jones (11pts, 5rebs, 4blks) played spirited at times, including the second quarter, when the Hawks began to play with passion. Jeremy scored 7 of Hayfield’s 16 points, and was a force in the paint defensively. Overall the JV Hawks need to find their roles, and then find their spirit every game. When this is accomplished, the sky will be the limit for these young Hawks.
