The Freshmen Hawks began their 2012-2013 campaign, with a convincing win over West Springfield’s freshmen squad. The Fresh Hawks had a balanced attack, with 10 players in the scoring column. The Hawks opened the game up, with a stifling press, which led eventually to a 22-5 second quarter, and they never looked back.

The Hawks were led by SG Jecardi Sykes (12pts, 1 rebs, 1 asst), who was hitting from all over the court, including 2 -2 from 3pt range. Other notable efforts included F Romaine Oakley (7pts, 3rebs, 1 block) who hit twice from long range, F Aaron Jeter (6pts, 5rebs, 4stls, 2assts), who orchestrated our zone offense, PG Xavier Gingras (9pts, 5 stls) whose pressure on their point guard led to many turnovers, and SG Elijah Villacorte (7pts, 4stls, 2assts), who also picked off many passes, and turned them into easy layups.

The Freshmen Hawks next travel to Mt. Vernon on Tuesday, to begin National District play. Game time 4pm.
