The Freshmen boys of Hayfield Secondary were defeated by the Majors of Mt. Vernon, by 17 points. In the first quarter, the Hawks jumped out to a quick lead, but then the wheels came off the bus. The Hawks led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, as neither team could get anything going. The Majors however, dominated the offensive glass, which led to a bulk of their offense today. In the 2nd half the Majors were able to pull away, as the young Hawks struggled to find offensive continuity. In the end, it was too much physicality on the offensive glass by the Majors, which did in the Hawks.
The Hawks did have one offensive bright spot however. In the 4th quarter, SG Elijah Villacorte (15pts, 3rebs, 1stl) tried to take over the game, and nearly succeeded. The Hawks were down by 7 several times, as Eli hit clutch buckets. Unfortunately, that was as close as they came. Eli ended up with 10 pts in the 4th, which was all but 3 pts of their entire output. The Fresh Hawks get right back at it, when they travel to Herndon HS on Friday.
