FRESH HAWKS EXECUTE DOWN THE STRETCH, EARN 3RD WIN

The 9th grade Hayfield Secondary Hawks came back from a rough first half to defeat the visiting 9th grade Generals of Washington & Lee HS. Trailing by 9 points at half, the Fresh Hawks finally put together a quality quarter, scoring 25 points in the pivotal third period, and then held on for the 5 point win. 

The young Hawks, who have struggled at times this year executing their game plan, really put it together in the third quarter, outscoring the Generals by 16 points. This transformation was sparked in no small way, by F Will Miles (2pts, 1stl) who started the third, and instantly raised the intensity for the struggling Hawks. His compatriot in setting the bar higher was reserve F Austin Lyons, who upon entering the game drilled a long 3, from the right corner. Starting PF Aaron Jeter (15pts, 10rebs) finally got going, scoring 11 of his team high 15 in the 3rd quarter. In the fourth quarter, Elijah Villacorte (9pts, 4assts) hit four consecutive free throws to help seal the victory. His back court mate PG Xavier Gingras (2pts, 7assts, 3rebs) also chipped in with key defensive stops, and timely entrance passes. In the past two games, Xavier has 15 assists. F Romaine Oakley (13pts, 3rebs, 1blk) found his stroke, stepping into many great jump shots, including 2 from downtown. In all, the young Hawks buried 6 3pt field goals.

The Fresh Hawks return to the floor for their final pre-Christmas game, this Thursday (12/20/12) vs. the 9th grade Raiders of Jeb Stuart HS.
