Hawks Resilient Efforts Captured the Moment : 49-45

Sometimes when you execute your plan things still do not go as planned. During the Chantilly game, the freshmen team encountered challenges that tested and affected their individual and team’s performance. As a whole they shot 31 percent (16-51) from the field; shot 11 percent from the 3 point line (1-9); had 15 turnovers and missed 16 layups.  Nonetheless, their determination to compete and scrapped for many opportunities helped them captured a win against a resilient Chantilly team.

 

In the first quarter, both teams battled for positions and opportunities. The lead exchanged 3 times and the score tied 3 times. The young Hawks continuously applied pressured defense that caused disruption and transition baskets to end the quarter with a small lead of 14-9.

 

The second quarter was a chess match. Both teams matched up on defense and exchanged baskets. Chantilly opened with a zone and challenged the team to shoot outside. The Hawks accepted the challenge but we were not able to capitalize on the opportunity.   Fortunately, the Hawks converted on their free throws to maintain the lead 25 to 20 to close the quarter.

 

In the third quarter, the Hawks took advantage of Chantilly’s missed shots and padded their lead 33 to 26 within 4 minutes of play but was not able to add to their lead as they exchanged baskets the remaining of the quarter.

 

During the fourth quarter Chantilly opened with consecutive steals and layups to tie the game 38 to 38 within just 2:48 seconds of play.  Then Chantilly took a one point lead (41 to 40) at the five minute mark. Soon after, the Hawks tied the score with a free throw. Then the Hawks widen the margin and won the game with two defensive stops, layups and two sets of free throws to capture the moment 49-45 from Chantilly home crowd.

 

Part of developing a team is being able to experience the many peaks and valleys of the game.  Tonight, the young Hawks certainly experienced those difficult and challenging moments as they struggled in many categories.  However, through their resilient attitude and efforts they were able to overcome many obstacles to satisfy their team goal --- that was to win their third straight game. Go Hawks!
