Yorktown Captures Win

It must have been the frigid weather as the young Hawks were not able to heat up or sustain their momentum into their normal playing mode or maybe it was just the exceptional plays of Yorktown. Either ways, the young Hawks lost to Yorktown 54-60.

The first quarter started out slow as the young Hawks could not convert opportunities to points and trailed 6- 12 after just 4 minutes of play. However, signs of resiliency occurred for a short period of time when Tony Castillo was inserted into the game. He provided a burst of energy on defense but unfortunately as he blocked a shot under the basket on a breakaway, he was accidentally elbowed on the head and was removed from the game.  However because of his energy, the team generated enough points to close the quarter only trailing 15-18.

The second quarter once again started with a lethargic pace as both teams moved the ball slowly down the court and missed opportunities. However when Tre Pearsall came into the game, he converted a percentage of his shots and generated 9 points in the quarter. At the same time Dane Kappeler hustled and worked the paint area well to control the boards. He even converted a lob pass from Salvo Deleo for two points to give the Hawks the lead 32-29.

The third quarter was a chess match. Both teams exchanged and countered each other moves. Fortunately, Hayfield managed to maintain a 43-42 lead to end the quarter

Yorktown opened the fourth quarter on attack mode. They scored 5 consecutive points before the young Hawks were able to score. As the young Hawks adjusted, they were able to tie the score 49-49. However, turnovers by the young Hawks and key transitional baskets by Yorktown late in the game enabled Yorktown to capture the game 60 to 54.
