Great Goalie Play Not Enough to Stop Briar Woods

       Hayfield’s Boys Varsity lacrosse team returned to the field for the first time since spring break, and the rustiness showed, as they were thumped (20-5) by their fellow birds of a feather, the Falcons of Briar Woods HS. One Hawk though, showed little rustiness; Goalie Nathanial Holic was excellent in the face of the Falcons barrage, making an unprecedented 21 saves (on 36 shots on cage) through 3 quarters. Unfortunately, the Falcons collective team speed, talent, coupled with the Hawks inability to control the face-offs, and gather in the groundballs, led to the lopsided score.

    Hayfield did manage some offense possessions, on the rare occasions that they were able to control the ball, and get the ball to their vaunted attack. Team scoring leader Jr. Attack Carson Babcock, added two scores to bring him to 14 goals (4.6/game) on the season, while Sr. MF JC Reynolds added a goal and assist, bringing him up to 2^nd on the team in goals (5), and 3^rd in points (9). Sr. MF Thomas Hughlett battled through a painful quad tweak to add his 2^nd and 3^rd goals of the season, along with an assist, raising his season total to 5 pts (4^th on the team). So. Attack Ethan Artero, still recovering from an off season shoulder injury, continued to pace the Hawks in assists, adding another yesterday to bring his team lead to 7. Overall, the Hawks continued to battle throughout the game, which in the end is the biggest growth vehicle, and will ultimately prove their salvation and lead to future success.
