Hawks Soar to 1st Home Victory of 2016

The Hayfield Boys Varsity Lacrosse team returned home nursing a 1-4 record, with only one of the last three losses, closely contested. The Hawks needed a victory, to right the ship, and to boost morale. They came out on Monday, with one goal in mind, protect their nest, and that is exactly what they did. Hayfield opened up their 3rd home game of the season with a decisive 8 goal 1st quarter. The rebuilt offense, finally began moving the ball with confidence and pace, which quickly turned into goal opportunities. Overall, Hayfield nearly scored at a 50% clip (16 goals on 33 shots). Of those 16 goals, 13 were assisted, which illustrates Hayfield’s desire to make the extra pass was at the forefront of their mindset. After it was all said and done, Hayfield took care of business, to gain their first home victory of the season.

Sr MF Mike Sipes (1 goal) scored his first goal of his career, on an end to end clear, utilizing his speed, and his increased confidence in his shot. He was joined in the scoring column by So. A Ethan Artero (4 goals, 1 assist), led the team in goals scored with four, and added his 9th assist of the season (tops on the Hawks). Jr. A Carson Babcock (3 goals, 4 assists) increased his overall team lead in goals and points (18 goals, 24 pts). Sr. MF JC Reynolds (1 goal, 2assists), scored on a sweet side arm rip, and took over sole possession of third on the team in scoring (15 pts). Sr. MF Thomas Hughlett, who is relentless on defense and a fast break machine, had his best day of 2016 with 3 goals, and 3 assists, to raise his point total to 13 (4th on the squad). Jr. LSM/MF Matt Stevenson scooped up several ground balls, and even chipped in with 3 assists, including a 30 yard laser to a streaking Babcock, late in the first quarter. Stevenson was attempting to score, but Babcock got his stick on it, and it deflected in for Hayfield’s 8th goal of the 1st quarter. FO/MF Clint Pearson finally got a chance to dominate at the faceoff circle, winning multiple faces, and scored 2 goals on the evening on top of that achievement. He was equaled by Jr. A Brendan MacBeth, who is known for his work ethic and ground ball presence, but added goal scorer to those athletic values, with his 3rd and 4th goals of the season.
