SOUTH LAKES HS: 16

Week off Heals and Hinders Hawks; Seahawks too much for Hayfield

Hayfield Boys Varsity returned to game action yesterday, after taking 10 days off. The time off was beneficial for healing injuries, but detrimental to the momentum gained during the 2nd half epic comeback vs. Fairfax. They could have used every bit of that momentum last night vs. South Lakes HS. The Seahawks, frontrunners of the Liberty Conference, dominated from the opening face-off. They scored 15 seconds into the game, and never looked back. Hayfield showed glimpses of the discipline gained in the previous 3 games, but weren’t able to keep up with most of the Seahawks players. Unfortunately this speed differential led to several penalties incurred by Hayfield. In the end, the game quickly slipped away in a 16-3 defeat, dropping Hayfield to 2-4 in conference (6th place).

Hayfield did have some bright spots last night. So. FO/M Clint Pearson continued to gain confidence as the Hawks starting face off specialist, outfacing the Seahawks on several occasions, and added his 5th goal of the season. Sr. MF JC Reynolds added his 12th goal of the season, giving Hayfield 4 players with 20 plus points for the season. Jr. A Carson Babcock tallied his team leading 26th goal, and 32nd point of the season. Sr. G Nathanial Holic turned back 13 shots, to raise his season total to 127 saves (14.1 saves/game). Jr. D Scott Harris and Sr. D Uzi Saeed received their first starts of the season.

Hayfield returns to the field on Friday, 4/29 for their last Liberty Conference regular season game, when they travel to Madison HS in Vienna. Then, next week, Hayfield will host their crosstown rivals, Mt. Vernon Majors on Tuesday, 5/3 for Hayfield’s Senior Night.
