Bittersweet Evening for Seniors, Hawks Fall to Majors by 2

The Hawks 2016 Spring regular season finale pregame ceremony was filled with pomp and circumstance, on a beautiful spring evening, cooled by a traditional Virginia thunderstorm earlier in that afternoon. While the game ended not the way the participants nor their fans wanted, it should be noted that the game was secondary to the recognition of the seniors and their parents and friends, whose passion for the sport of lacrosse has never waned, despite not always achieving their team goals this season.

Tuesday night saw some firsts, as Seniors Keller Corfield (M), Yanis Zennia (A), Aiden Fischer (FO/M), and Uzair (Uzi) Saeed (D), received their first varsity starts of their career. Each of these players, along with fellow seniors Ahmed Mohamed (LSM), James Corbin (DM), Jared Wagner (M), Trent Silva (D), Andrew Ryan (D), Nate Richardson (LSM), Bobby Enyinnaya (M), and Tyler Milhon (LSM/D) exemplify the character, dedication, and passion, which every team needs to be successful. These men don’t always receive the individual attention they deserve, but they still come to practice every day, striving to make themselves and their teammates better.

The game was almost anticlimactic (following the wonderful Senior Night presentation), as Hayfield struggled early to find their mojo. Sr. MF JC Reynolds (1 goal, 1asst) knotted the game at 1 apiece, on a feed from leading scorer Jr. A Carson Babcock (4 goals, 1asst), who also found the back of the net 9 minutes later, to tie the game at 2. Babcock, would score 3 more times in the second half, including 2 goals in 14 seconds during the pivotal 4th quarter. Sr. MF Thomas Hughlett (1 goal, 1asst) and Jr. A Brendan Macbeth (1 goal) rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece, while So. A Ethan Artero (1assist) added to his team high assist total, when he found Babcock early in the second quarter, for Hayfield 2nd goal of the evening. Sr. G Nathanial Holic added 12 more saves, including 5 in the third quarter, keeping Hayfield close.

Hayfield will travel to Yorktown HS on Thursday, to begin Liberty Conference tournament play. Game time 5:30pm
