Hawks fall to Warhawks, Gain 6th seed!

While Hayfield would have loved to have beaten the Warhawks of Madison HS on Madison’s senior night, their game did produce a positive result; they solidified their hold on the 6th seed for the upcoming Liberty Conference tournament. Hayfield will meet Yorktown HS on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Yorktown, in a battle of the top two goalies in the Liberty Conference: Yorktown’s Mason Pollack, and our own Nathanial Holic, who share this season’s top conference goalie honors (1st Team All Conference).

Holic again was a standout on Friday night, as he turned back 22 Warhawks shots, to top the 20 plus save mark for the third time this season. On top of that he scored his first point of the season, when he carried a clear deep into the Warhawk territory. His recipient was good friend Carson Babcock (2 goals and 2 assists), who snatched the pass out of the air, with a catch that only Babcock (1st Team All Conference, and Hawks leading scorer) can make, and slipped his shot past the goalie at the 6:56 mark of the third quarter, pulling Hayfield to within three (9-6).

Hayfield played this game without Sr. MF Thomas Hughlett (2nd Team All Conference), but Sr. JC Reynolds (2 goals and 2assists) responded with one of his best games of the season, scoring twice on 5 shots, and playing excellent two way lacrosse. He led the offense, and was involved in each of the first four scoring plays, with his 2nd assist putting Hayfield ahead 4-2 early in the 2nd quarter. Reynolds displayed the game leadership, focus, and passion, which netted him 1st team All Conference at midfield in his final season at Hayfield. Reynolds also assisted on his heir apparent, Fr. MF Silas Frazier’s (1 goal) first varsity goal. Jr. LSM Matt Stevenson (1 goal), nursing a sore shoulder, played most of the game at close defense,  but still managed to score his second goal of the season. Stevenson achieved 2nd Team All Conference this season for his work at LSM and defense, and for his versatility at both midfield and attack as well. So. D Max Towler (Hon. Mention – All Conference) was a ground ball machine on Friday, earning deserving praise, in his first full varsity season. So. Ethan Artero (Hon. Mention – All Conference) added Hayfield’s final goal of the third quarter (and ultimately the game), on a great pass from Babcock.

Goals/Assists/Pts. Scored By: Babcock (2/2/4), Reynolds (2/2/4), MacBeth (0/0/0), Hughlett (0/0/0), Stevenson (1/0/1), Artero (1/0/1), Frazier (1/0/1), Holic (0/1/1)
