No Miracle Comeback this Year, Rebels hold off Hawks!

Hayfield Boys Lax, which had one of the greatest comebacks of all time last season vs. the Rebels of Fairfax (trailing 10-1 at the half, then scored 12 unanswered goals to win), traveled to Fairfax HS tonight for the rematch. The Rebels, similar to last season, jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, and led 12-3 at the half. Hayfield, which has been playing from behind in almost every game this year, knew exactly what to do; the question was, could they?

Unfortunately, there was no miracle comeback in the bag this year, as the Rebels pushed the lead to 14-3 early in the 3rd quarter, ultimately winning by 11, 16-5. Hayfield did have some bright spots, and have some great young talent which gives a beacon of hope for the remaining 4 games and playoffs, as well as next season. One of those bright spots is Jr. Attack Ethan Artero, who added 4 points to his team leading total (now at 24 pts), with 2 goals and 2 assists. He was joined in the scoring column by: Fr. MF Hayden Page, who chipped in a goal, off of a nifty pass from Artero, by Sr. Attack Brendan Macbeth, who snared an errant pass/ground ball from Fairfax, created a breakaway, and then found the top shelf, with his trademark low to high left handed rip, and by Sr. MF Carson Babcock, who added 1 goal, and 1 assist to his career totals (79 total points in 3 plus seasons on varsity).

Soph. Goaltender Jake Fischer started the first varsity game of his career, struggled a bit early, but then found his rhythm and ultimately made 16 saves, tying for the season high, with Sr. Goaltender Stanley Grizmala (dnp-illness). Soph. DM Omar Diallo continued to impress, with 3 solid full field clears, and spirited defense at short stick d-middie, while Soph. Close D Kody Venable had another solid game, with 3 ground balls, and solid on the ball defense.

Hayfield will now have some much needed time off, and will return to action in 2 weeks, following Spring Break 17
