Hawks Fall to 1-7, in loss to Seahawks

The Boys Varsity continued to struggle vs. the top tier talent of the Liberty Conference, losing their 5 straight game, to the #1 seed South Lakes Seahawks, 17-4. Hayfield’s trademark of never quitting, despite the score, has been put to the test this season, but this resolve will pay off in the future. The Hawks future is bright, with over half of the team comprised of underclassmen.

One of those bright spots is Jr. FO/M Clint Pearson (2 goals), who achieved his 3rd multi-goal performance of the season. Pearson, one of the more physically imposing faceoff specialists in the conference, got Hayfield on the board midway through the 1st half, when he won his faceoff, and powered all the way to the goal. His 2nd goal of the night, came from the left wing, when Pearson secured a pass from Sr. A/M Carson Babcock (1 goal/ 1 assist), and rifled a shot past the Seahawks goalie in the top right corner.

Another future star for Hayfield, is Goalie Jake Fischer. Since taking over the full time goalie duties, Fischer has shown flashes of brilliance in the goal. Against Fairfax HS, he achieved 16 saves, and on Tuesday night, he notched 11. Combined with an excellent outlet pass (2 assists on the season), Fischer is on his way to helping Hayfield reclaim past glory.

Other notable performances included Sr. A Brendan MacBeth (1 goal), who never say quit attitude on the field, led to Hayfield’s last tally on the night, when he outdueled several Seahawk defenders in the back corner of the field, and the outraced them to the goal, stuffing it home. Jr. A Ethan Artero (1 assist), prevented from scoring a goal for only the 2nd time this season, still added to his point total, when he threaded a sweet interior pass to Babcock, for an early second half score.

Goals/Assists/Pts. Scored By: E. Artero (0/1/1), L. Artero (0/0/0), Marshall (0/0/0), Page (0/0/0), Manley, Jr. (0/0/0), MacBeth (1/0/1), Pearson (2/0/2), Babcock (1/1/2)
