Hawks hard work not enough, fall to Highlanders 19-7

Hayfield Boys Lacrosse traveled to McLean HS, for their make-up game from the March 16th snowed out contest. It was the Highlanders senior night, which unfortunately for Hayfield, they made the most of. The beginning of the game looked promising, as Sr. A Brendan MacBeth (1 goal, 1assist) put Hayfield in front for only the second time this season, with a goal in the first minute of play. That lead held for one and half minutes, and by the end of the first quarter, Hayfield trailed 8-2. That said, Hayfield continued to work hard, as they have from day one. In the end though, the hill was too steep.

The Hawks finally received a break-out game from Sr. A/M Carson Babcock (5 goals), who for the first time this season had a multi-goal game. Babcock, Hayfield’s leading scorer a year ago, worked hard for his scores, often scrounging in front of the goal, and then finding slight cracks in the Highlanders defense. Babcock, who entered this season with 77 career points, has added 7 points to that total in three games, raising his career total to 84 (in 46 career games, for an average of 1.8 pts/game).

Other notable performances included: Jr. Ethan Artero (1 goal/ 1 assist) added to his team lead in goals and points, now at 26 points (16 goals, 10 assists). Goalie Jake Fischer added 12 more saves to his total (66), which is good for top 25 All-Met.

Goals/Assists/Pts. Scored By: E. Artero (1/1/2), L. Artero (0/0/0), Marshall (0/0/0), Page (0/0/0), Manley, Jr. (0/0/0), MacBeth (1/1/2), Pearson (0/0/0), Babcock (5/0/5)
