Eagles Clip Hawks Wings, Win Battle of Birds 11-4

    Hayfield SS traveled to crosstown rival Edison HS, last Thursday night. Facing near gale force winds, and Edison’s hot goaltender proved too much of an obstacle for the struggling Hawks, who lost to the Eagles, in the 2018 incarnation of the Bird Bowl. Hayfield struggled again to find their rhythm, until the final 12 minutes, when they finally warmed up in the mid 40’s temps.

    In the 4^th quarter, Hayfield outscored the Eagles 3-1, with Jr. LSM Omar Diallo tallying his first goal of the season. Later, Sr. A Clint Pearson (Hawks leading scorer on season; 27pts), scored on a change-up that fooled the Edison goalie, followed up by So. A Hayden Page’s 19^th goal of the season, when he received a beautiful feed from Jr. A Amadu Turay (2 assists), after he corralled a Gilman pass (full field pass) from Jr. G Jake Fischer. It was Turay’s 2^nd assist of the evening, putting him in the lead on the team with 6 dimes! The Hawks also won the ground ball battle, outworking the Eagles by 6. It’s the little things like this, that will eventually help Hayfield cross the winner’s threshold.
