Hawks Share the Rock; Roll to First District Win!

The Varsity Boys put together their best game in two seasons at the Hawks Nest, soaring out to a 5 goal lead in the first quarter (7-2), and never looked back. Hayfield scored early and often, usually after making the extra pass, finding a wide-open teammate. The Hawks amassed 10 assists, reaching double digits for the first time in 4 years. After starting the season off struggling against Edison, the Hawks looked like world beaters, with a commanding 18-7 win over their arch rival, the Mt. Vernon Majors!

Last night, many of the Hawks shined, although none brighter than Sr. Face-off Midfielder Luke Artero (3 goals, 1 assist), who scored a hat trick, won a majority of his face-offs, scooped up a team high 6 ground balls, and chipped in with his first assist of the season. His disciplined focus at the face off circle, sparked the Hawks to score 14 more goals in this game, then their last. Sr. Brian Marshall (4 goals. 1 assist), moved from midfield to attack for this game, scored the first goal of the game for the second straight contest. Marshall now leads the Hawks with 6 goals, and is tied with

Jr. Hayden Page (4 goals, 2 assists) with 7 total points. Page moved up to midfield, and made an immediate impact, helping Artero with much needed clears, and faceoff wins, and added to his current team career lead in goals (39 goals, over three varsity seasons).

Other notable performances included: Sr. Jamin Phillips (4 goals, 1 assist), whose physical play at attack and midfield, often overwhelmed his defenders on the way to the net. Sr. Amadu Turay (2 goals, 2 assists), earning his first varsity start, set the tone early with 2 of Hayfield’s 5 assists in the 1st quarter. So. Thorsten Muelbauer, scored his first varsity point, with an assist on Marshall’s second goal of the 1st quarter. Sr. Sean Moment (1 goal) scored for the 2nd straight game, and played spirited defense all over the field. Sr Defensemen Kody Venable, and Omar Diallo set the tone on defense, with excellent man to man coverage, and both scooped up 5 ground balls apiece. Venable also added to his point total with an assist. Sr. Goalie Hassan Ibrahim made his first varsity appearance in goal, late in the 4th quarter, and made his first regular season save of his career!
