Hawks Firepower Too Much for Herndon

Hayfield continued its impressive offensive string with a 24-2 victory over Herndon in the 2010 NoVa Spring Break Tournament. In a game that looked early to be a defensive struggle, the score was knotted at 0-0 until the Hawks (4-1, 2-0) scored 10 runs in the 4th and 12 in the 5th to blow it open against the Hornets. Twins Sam and Megan Perry-Shifflett combined for seven RBI’s and each went deep with monster 2-run home runs to lead the Hawks to their 4th straight victory. Sophomore Kelly Sheaff showed off speed and power with a 2-run inside-the-park home run of her own, and drove in another with a single.

Senior LF Kolbie Franco had a career-high 4 RBI’s batting 3-5 on the day. Amber Fowler had a 3-4 game with a triple and a run batted in and struck out 10 in her other job as pitcher. Senior RF Hannah Williams went 3-5 and drove in two. Freshman 2B Taryn McElhenny was 3-5, scored four runs with 2 RBI’s. Freshman 1B Katelyn Thorne and junior CF Jessica Reynolds had two hits apiece.

The Hawks have outscored their last three opponents by a combined score of 83-4.
