Hawks Continue Record-Breaking Run with 28-0 Win at Falls Church
The 2010 Hayfield Hawks continued their assault on the record books with a 28-0 victory over the Falls Church Jaguars on Friday night. Pitchers Amber Fowler and Taylor Neuhart combined on a 5-inning perfect game. Of the 15 batters faced between them, only two put the ball in play for groundouts. Neuhart struck out all nine of the batters she faced.
Megan Perry-Shifflett broke the Hayfield record for RBIs in a season with three in the game to bring her total for the campaign to 27. Fowler had a stellar night at the plate, driving in 6 with three doubles. Neuhart hit two doubles of her own and drove in four. The Hawks had nine extra-base hits including triples by Megan Perry-Shifflett and Hannah Williams
The Hawks have benefitted all year from record setting production at the top of the order. Leadoff batter Hannah Williams and No. 2 hitter Sam Perry-Shifflett each stepped into the batter's box six times in the game and scored in 11 of their 12 combined appearances. Each passed the previous single season runs scored record of 29 during the game - Williams with 34 and Perry-Shifflett with 32. Williams scored six runs in a single game for the second time this season and also stole 5 bases to extend her Hayfield record to 31.
The Hawks will next host the Edison Eagles in the second Battle of the Birds on Tuesday at 6:00pm
