MOUNT VERNON HIGH: 2
Mount Vernon's Olivia Compton pitched a three-hitter to end the Hawks chances of winning a second National District Championship. Mount Vernon scored first in the 4th when lead off batter, Alexandria Roberts was hit with an inside pitch. Megan Cole then drew a walk and Compton delivered a run-producing single to right centerfield. The score remained 1-0 until the 7th inning when Mount Vernon's Brittany Diggs walked and scored on three errors. In the bottom of the 7th, Taylor Neuhart singled and reached second on a wild pitch. Angela Sudik drove her in with a hard hit ball to the infield. Jessica Reynolds then reached base on an infield error. With two outs and the tieing and winning runs on base Compton forced the next batter to ground out ending the Hawks undefeated Distrtict season. Mount Vernon had a total of 4 hits and Hayfield three (Megan Perry-Shifflett a double, Amber Fowler and Neuhart a single each. The Hawks will enter the region tournament as the second seed and will face the number 3 seed from the Concorde District at Hayfield on May 27th.
