Hayfield won their first conference game of the season by beating Mount Vernon 4-1 Tuesday night. Avery Neuhart pitched her first complete game of the year. Avery allowed 3 hits, 3 walks, no earned runs and struck out 15 Mount Vernon hitters.
Sarah Wilsey (triple, single) had two hits in the game for Hayfield. Julia Napier (double), Caitlyn Goggin (single, walk), Melaney Umana (single, walk, RBI), Julia Hurwitz (single, walk) and Kaylee Shull (single, RBI) also contributed at the plate for the Hawks. Caitlyn Goggin and Melaney Umana each had a stolen base.
Kaylee Shull made a great catch from second base on a fly ball in short center field in the 7th inning.
