Hayfield SS Track & Field News

Hayfield SS Track & Field News                    Wednesday, March 15, 2017

Welcome to the Hawks Track & Field Family!

The intention of this letter is to keep the athletes and families in the loop of what is going on with the team. Please read through everything. :) If you have questions, please contact me ASAP.

UNIFORMS - There are three garments: the orange competition singlet, the all black mid-thigh tights, and the long sleeve gray T-shirt. Each is $20. Buying all three at the same time is $50.

Athletes being considered for Conn Madden will be given priority to purchase starting Monday. We have garments for 40 athletes. The funds from these sales will secure the garments for the rest of the team.

Ladies can purchase all three, however, the ladies cut singlet is backordered until April. Those ladies selected for the Conn Madden Relays who need a singlet top will receive a “throw back” singlet for that meet. We will swap for the new ones when they arrive.

Any athlete that chooses to wear their own black tights needs to be aware that the garment is limited to ONE corporate logo of a maximum size 2” x 3”. A waistband logo is an illegal garment.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM - The code to join is: ec656h     All athletes need to join and complete the assignment to be on the roster. There are currently three assignments. A paragraph describing their goal(s) for the season which is required for all team members. The other two assignments carry over from winter, so only new team members need to complete them - Social Media use and Sports Nutrition are free classes from the National Federation of High School Sports. Athletes are to complete the course (20 minutes each), screen shot their certificate and put it in the Google classroom folder.

LOCKER ROOMS - We have always brought our bags out to practice with us, so this is potentially security issue for us. Athletes must have a lock to use the locker rooms.

COMPETITION SHOES - Good deals on footwear can be found here:

FIRST MEET - The coaching staff is working through the roster to find the best matches to fill the events at our first competition. The Conn Madden Relays are held Friday & Saturday, March 24-25. That Friday is a student holiday from school. We will take an 9 AM charter bus with 45 athletes to Newport News. The meet is held at Todd Stadium which again is the site of the VHSL state championship meet in June. Athletes will need to contribute $50 to help pay for the bus, the hotel rooms and team meals. Cash or a check made out to Hayfield SS w/track in the memo are accepted. Additional pocket money($40) is recommended for food during the meet and possibly a meet T-shirt. We will stop at a grocery store to buy supplies. There are special JV races for grades 7-9. We will take as many as 8 frosh girls and 8 frosh boys. Athletes who are being CONSIDERED will receive a paper Tuesday, March 21st. The paper requires a parent signature and is to be to put in Coach Jones’ hands with the money by Thursday March 23rd.
